She wasn't very happy when I said we had to wait to watch Micah open presents until Daddy got home from work, so I let them open one.
We headed out to run some errands and pick up a last minute birthday present. We stopped at Chick-fil-A for lunch, and Mara didn't eat anything. That was my first clue something wasn't right. We got a free chocolate brownie, and she watched me eat the entire thing myself. My second clue. She then started complaining that her stomach hurt, so we headed straight for home. Lance also came home early from work not feeling well. They both had a stomach bug, but thankfully Mara never threw up. Pretty sure she wouldn't have understood that she needed to get to the toilet first. What a bummer of a birthday. Good thing he didn't even know it was his birthday. We still celebrated as best as we could that night.
Love birthday mail!
Mara was pretty excited that Great Grandpa and Grandma Seil included something for her in Micah's card! It was labeled with a post it with her name. She thought the post it was a name tag. You can see that she slapped it right on her shirt.
We had a birthday dinner at the Pizza Ranch after everyone was feeling better. That's where we took Mara on her first birthday, so now it's officially a tradition.
His reaction to his first bite of ice cream! After a couple bites, he didn't want anymore. Whose kid is this?
helping Dad decorate for his birthday party
begging for a bite
helping put together the party favors
And the guests finally arrived.....
He wasn't quite sure how to go about digging in at first.
The damage.

Grandpa has GUILTY written all over his face if you couldn't tell. Because.....
This is what I caught these two doing after I said Micah had eaten enough cake and had cleaned him up. BUSTED!
I guess if you aren't the first child, you don't get to open any of your presents on your first birthday. Maybe by his second birthday he will have more of an opinion about letting others help out.
Uncle Jacob was a bit jealous of Micah's new wheels!
"Really? You open all my presents and then PLAY with them?
Do you remember whose birthday it is? Geesh!"
It's a good thing Micah didn't understand that it was his birthday because I think he would have been a little disappointed that his big sis and daddy had the stomach flu.
Everyone was feeling good in the morning, so the kids and I headed out to run some errands and pick up a last minute birthday gift for Micah. We stopped at Chik-Fil-A for lunch, and Mara didn't eat anything. That was my first clue something wasn't right. We got a free chocolate brownie, and she watched me eat the entire thing myself. That was my second clue. I sure would gain a few pounds if she were sick more often! She started complaining that her tummy hurt, so we headed straight for home. Lance came home early from work not feeling well. The fun day we had planned turned into a lazy day at home.
