Spooning

Micah has started showing interest in using silverware.  One morning I gave him a spoon with his oatmeal but not expecting him to successfully feed himself.  But he completely surprised me!  He ate almost the entire bowl with his spoon and only a small amount on himself!

He hasn't done that well since then. Foods like cottage cheese and apple sauce usually end up getting eaten with his hands and he ends up a mess.  One year olds have so many new skills to master, and it's amazing how quickly they learn new things.  I love to watch his determination.

Sledding

We completed the second and final thing on our winter bucket list!  Thanks to friends who read this blog and couldn't bear the thought of us not getting to go sledding this winter.  They just happen to have a hill in their yard that's perfect for sledding!

B was such a gentleman carrying the sled back up the hill every time.
Micah was very patient while the big kids had some fun.  I didn't get any pictures of him sledding, but he yelled, "Whoa!" all the way down.

Thanks for a fun afternoon S Family!

Thankful Thursday

1.  Mommy-Daughter girls night - dinner, shopping and ice cream.  We stayed out past our curfew, so we had to eat dessert in the car on the way home.
2.  Micah's words - His latest is "Wow!"
3.  smarties - We had some major potty training regression going on last week, and two Smarties for dry undies got her back on track.  It's the small things, right?  I hadn't heard too many moms talk about it, so I was a bit stressed and hopeless for a couple of days.  After reading several articles about potty training regression, I was filled with hope again.  Thankfully it's just a phase (a phrase I have been living by for a year.  Probably will live by it for several more!)
4.  time to scrapbook - Just started Micah's baby book.  A bit behind.
5.  new library books
6.  bible study - learning so much about and through Revelation
7.  toddler open gym - We're starting to get cabin fever around here.   Spring is around the corner!
8.  Mara's love for pictures.  She has always enjoyed looking at them.  When she was younger, she would beg us to hold her up to the fridge and talk about the pictures.  Now she loves to look at Shutterfly books, go through photo albums and scroll through the photo gallery on the iPad.  She also loves to have her picture taken.  This was supposed to be Micah's 1 year photo shoot, but of course she had to be involved.
9.  Mini Cadbury Eggs - Probably the best thing Lance introduced me to.  Our scale would disagree.  How did I miss these the first 25 years of my life?

To human beings belong the plans of the heart, but from the Lord comes the proper answer of the tongue.  Proverbs 16:1

In their hearts, human beings plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.  Proverbs 16:9

Playmates

I can't imagine only having one kid.  Oh wait, yes I can.  Just Sunday we got to experience that for a few hours while Mara was with my parents.  We only had to get one kid ready for church.  We got to have an adult conversation during lunch.  We didn't have to use any time outs.  We got to spend some two-on-one time with Micah which he totally enjoyed.  But it was too quiet, too boring.  So we decided to let Big Sis back in when she returned from her time with Grandpa and Grandma.

Now what I can't imagine is these two not having a permanent playmate.  Mara wants Micah to do EVERYTHING she does.  She will attempt to drag him to her room if he refuses to go.  She will try to make him keep his tea cup in his hand because she knows for a fact that he wants to drink some tea.  Micah loves to imitate EVERYTHING his Big Sis does.  He will sit on the floor in the bathroom watching her wash her hands while he's furiously rubbing his hands together.
Mara's bed is one of their favorite places to hang out lately.
And clothes baskets are their latest craze.

Strollin' Tractor Style

Micah has quickly learned how to turn Mara's toys into boy toys.  A boy pushing around a stroller is much more manly with a tractor inside.  Of course he also had the tractor noise going as he was pushing.

Kids Fest

Grandpa Alan and Grandma Janet took Mara to Kids Fest.  She came home with her face painted, tattooed hands and full of sugar.  She was talking about it for the rest of the day!

Thanks for the fun day, Grandpa and Grandma!

Planks

As if planks weren't hard enough.....
